May 3 until December
31, 2008 - The Cutting Art: New Exhibit Opens at Landis Valley Museum. Many
beautiful antique paper cuttings from the collection at Landis Valley Museum
will be on display in
the Visitor Center from May 3 until December 31, 2008. The exhibit, entitled “The
Cutting Art,” highlights antique and modern decorative cut paper pieces and
features Pennsylvania German examples of the art form known as Scherenschnitte.
The exhibit also includes significant works – state, national and
international - from over a dozen private collections and institutions and from
around the world, including pieces that reflect Mexican, Japanese and Chinese
traditions. Have you ever created a paper snowflake? Then you are a papercutter!
Children and adults will have the opportunity to learn more about this
fascinating art form from the experts, Saturday, May 24th in the Yellow Barn at
Landis Valley Museum. Members of The Guild of American Papercutters (GAP) will
be demonstrating and offering hands-on paper experiences to those who attend the
“Paper Caper” from 9AM to noon. These workshops will be included in the
price of admission to the museum, Saturday, May 24 only. GAP Co-chairs Sharon
Schaich, Lititz, PA and Sandy Gilpin, Hanover, PA, assure everyone that they
will enjoy learning about this art form which was explored by the early German
settlers of the area. An exhibit of antique and
contemporary paper cuttings
“The Cutting Art” will also be available for all to
see in Landis Valley
Museum’s Visitor
Center. Admission
